The Kelly Bag

posh with her kellyOne of the most coveted, asked about, read about and blogged about handbags of all time. The French house of design hit the nail on the head with this classic and chic luxury bag. In 1956 fashion icon and timeless female idol Grace Kelly appeared on the cover of Life magazine with The Hermes Kelly Bag. The story goes, that the bag was not photographed as a status symbol but to conceal Kelly's pregnant stomach (the bag is still used by celebrities for this reason today!). Every woman in the 50's wanted to live the Kelly life and an easy way to replicate it was to carry the bag. The bag had been around since the early 1800's but it took a starlet like Grace to put the bag into such a high status, celebrity endorsement has always been a seller!

Today if your looking to purchase the coveted bag you better start saving your pennies because prices start from $5000AUD for plain leather, the more exotic you want the higher the price goes. So the basic rule is, put your name on a waiting list and then start saving to avoid disappointment. But as most men won't understand it's a worthy investment, if it's been in fashion for this long, it's a good guarantee it's not going out of style anytime soon.

I love, love love... truly an investment piece. Too bad its not available on a discount site. Although Ebay through ebates with cash back could be a money saving option.
