Here at An Australian Wintour we have always strived to develop a culture of mentoring and helping men and woman looking at a career in the fashion industry. As I was going through the information gathering process I found their wasn’t as much help as I needed. We have made it our mandate to develop a culture where when possible articles will be relevant to you starting you career in fashion.

Leiela Ladies Evening Wear and Leiela Bridal Collection is a Melbourne-based label established by Lucy Laurita in 2005. Designed and created using rich, beautiful fabrics and ornate trims, Leiela gowns are suitable for any special occasion. Leiela has been worn by personalities and featured in a variety of media outlets. Aspiring fashion designers (from Victoria, AUS) are lucky enough to have the opportunity to have one of their own designs added to the LEIELA collection.

The competition is being run in conjunction with the L’oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival as part of the culture program, which would be an amazing experience for designers to get amongst the hype and excitement the festival.

Open from Jan 5^th to aspiring designers aged 16 and over from Victoria, participants are invited to present a design that reflects the LEIELA brand – to emulate glamour and grace that is elegantly edgy. From the entries received, five designers will be selected as finalists of whom each will be required to create and bring the design to life. The winner will be awarded with gown naming rights and their design will be added to the LEIELA collection. In addition, the winner will receive a LEIELA gown/s up to the value of AU$1,000.00.

A team of judges will be reviewing the entries and will also be available as mentors to finalists, providing guidance and support to designers throughout the final course of gown construction. Judging the entries will include Lucy Laurita, creator of Leiela – finalists will be revealed on Friday, 12 February 2010 with the winner being announced at the LMFF Leiela open studio on Sunday, 21 March 2010.
