How to: Keep your hair & skin hydrated in winter Part 1 HAIR

The easy answer to this question is live like a mermaid underwater. Or keep your skin in pristine condition by bathing in buttermilk. Unfortunately do to the constraints of living an adult life neither of these options are viable. I get really terrible cracked lizard like dry skin in the winter. Ever heard of someone complain about ‘chill bleeds’? If you have it was most likely from me whinging loudly on public transport about how my hands are so dry that they are bleeding. Sexy. And I work in a bar at nights, so that means my dry bleeding hands get stung with yeast from beer and acid from limes every night. Double sexy. In addition to my life moonlighting as a bartender I write about beauty, this helps to balance out the insanity of my life and the disgusting state of my skin. I’ve trialled a few product since Autumn hit for sorting out my skin. Someone worked, a lot didn’t. Here are the products that turned my reptile like coverings into skin that Kate Middleton would borrow when we do sleepovers.

Best hair treatment: Moroccan Oil Restorative Hair Mask

What is it? A hair treatment to penetrate deep into the depths of weak, tired and dry hair. It’s packed full of vegetable proteins (whatever they are?)

What do it do? It is this gloriously thick cream, (thick white cream in winter is heaven!) that made my hair soft and supple and even a serious blowdry. Win

Why should I buy it? Everyone has heard of Moroccan Oil but using it in a treatment is a step beyond the genius original oil. Buy it because you’ll be smarter than your friends.

Best shampoo & conditioner: Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging moisture Shampoo & Conditioner

(mouthful!)

What is it? Really amazing Shampoo & Conditioner, ok that’s not the most technical answer to the question but this stuff is amazing. It’s a sulfate free cleanser (sulfate is nasty stuff) infused with Seasilk that helps prevent hair from ageing. Most importantly it’s a thick cream with a satin like texture that helps restore hydration, colour, moisture and basically is just amazing.

What do it do? I recently coloured my hair for the first time in 3 years and my hair hated me for it. My hair bought me flowers to apologize for being such a bitch after I treated it to Alterna.

What should I buy it? I always wonder if the price difference is going to match the ‘hair difference’ when supermarket shampoo is about $2 a bottle it’s a serious question. This is one of the few times I truly believe in paying that bit extra for good quality shampoo and conditioner.
