High and Dry

By Kristy Charleson.

I had to laugh the other day when Megan called and told me she had just spent the last 2 hours having her nails done by the worlds slowest beautician! Let’s face it, it’s the new year, we are doing stuff, we don’t have time to sit around watching (nail) paint dry. Here are a few tricks you can do at home to set your nail colour in a flash.

Dip your fingers in chilled water or run them under a cool tap. Nail polish is not water soluble and the liquid will force the varnish to contract and dry faster.

If you are in a frantic rush, try placing your hands inside the freezer. The frosty air will shock the polish, setting it perfectly.

Don’t wave your hands around like a lunatic, you will look like a balloon man and children will point and laugh. Instead, wave a hair dryer over your nails. Remember to have it on the coolest setting as heat can cause bubbling and cause your polish to chip.

Oil! Olive, vegetable, canola, coconut, what ever you have around the house really. I can’t for the life of me figure out how this works, but it does. A small amount of oil rubbed into the nail will set and harden the polish and nourish cuticles to make for healthy hands.

  1. I had not thought that putting cold water on your nail polish would set it quickly. Thanks for the tip. Sounds a lot more effective than just letting it dry on its own.

  2. That does work. I actually tried it and running cold water on your nail polish quickens the drying process. This is something that is not really known so thanks for putting it out there.

  3. I love the water trick, I have been doing it forever and swear by it. Happy to help :)

  4. I read this blog post last week and tried this last night with running water over my nails and it worked :)
