Attractively Airborne- Staying Fresh While Flying

How the hell does Cameron look so FRESH?

Jetlag and Long Haul Flights.

They bear the ugliest of consequences.
Being 37,000 feet in the air in a pressurised flying box is not ideal for youthful good looks. However, on my last long haul flight from Paris to Australia (36 freaking hours) I noticed something amazing. As I stumbled through customs with sex-hair, minus the sex, bloodshot eyes and skin dryer than a desert, trying to remember what my bag looked like and who I was, the girl who’d been sitting behind me on the same flight appeared. She looked like she’d just had 8 hours of good sleep, a vegetable juice and a facial.
She strolled along merrily, chatting and smiling, looking radiant, like some kind of magical long distance flight fairy.

WHAT. THE. HELL.

Now, I’ve been doing some research, and apparently it is possibly to hop off a long flight, not looking like you’ve slept in a hedge, if you just follow a few simply guidelines.

Choose your carry on carefully- You need a good quality face and body moisturiser to apply to all exposed skin every 2 to 3 hours; good quality face wipes (try to find some with cucumber extract if possible, as this will sooth puffy eyes); rosemary oil – put a few drops on your pressure points and this will help you drift off to sleep; chewing gum or breath mints or a small travels sized toothbrush/toothpaste kit (some airlines hand these out)

Go Sober- Do. Not. Drink. While. Flying. I don’t usually like to bring this story up, but if it helps someone else not to make a fool of themselves then it’ll be all worth it. While flying to Bali last year I had 2  small glasses of red wine. Now I don’t remember this, but apparently I laughed hysterically at nothing for half an hour, then cried, then passed out in my boyfriends lap. Due to the altitude alcohol is massively more potent while you’re in the air. It’s also highly dehydrating, so you’ll probably end up with a massive headache. And a long lecture from your embarrassed travel companions. It’s just not worth it.

Put your hair up- Hagrid hair is not your fate. Plait it before boarding and spritz with a moisturising hair spray. When you take it out you’ll have gorgeous frizz and knot-free waves. It may be tempting to want to clip them back in, but if you’ve taken your hair extensions out before the flight, leave them out and simple tie your hair up.

Drink up- I know that plane toilets are creepy, but you need to be drinking at least 1 litre of water an hour to maintain skin and organ hydration. The pressurised plane cabin will dehydrate you at a much faster rate than normal air, leaving you looking blotchy and dried out. Hydrate from the inside out to avoid this.

Pop some pills and chill out- Before you fly head to your local health food shop and grab some herbal sleeping tablets. If you’re an anxious flyer these can really take the edge off, and help you to sleep, without putting any harsh chemicals in your body. Go for a rose-hip  rosemary, garlic combination to help relax you, and give your immunity a boost.

Wherever you’re off to this holiday season, have a safe and happy journey!

  1. Jetlag is awful, glad you have found remedies for that!! Definitely don’t drink either!

  2. Jet lag is definitely no fun. Thanks for the tips.

  3. Drinking on the plane is a no-no!!

  4. It’s been a while since I have been on a long flight like that however if I choose to go on sometime soon these are great pointers, thanks.

  5. Jet lag can be brutal. You want to make sure you are in good shape while you are flying and yes avoid drinking at all costs.

  6. I wish I would have had these tips when I first started flying. Flying can be the worse when it comes to your body and I have also seen those who look like they just stepped out of a magazine when getting off the plane. It makes me a bit jealous because I ahve to go into public looking like I walked into a cyclone.

  7. It’s not just women who worry about things like this. Believe it or not, us men do as well but we don’t like to talk about it and you wouldn’t see me taking pills in public unless they are supplements to bulk up although this doesn’t mean that I don’t take them. We like to appear masculine and therefore everything we do isn’t everything we do if you know what I mean?

  8. I have to say these tips are great in general to keep in mind if you are working long hours in air conditioned offices drying out your skin going in and out from hot air making it all frizzy. I am a new follower but long the blog and all the tips x
