You will never ever run out of things to do in Hong Kong. This rich cultural hub of food, shopping, arts and history has so much to offer the energetic traveller. We travelled to Hong Kong in July 2013 for just four days, but we now realise we could of stayed weeks we loved the city that much. While we were there the annual Hong Kong Summer Spectacular was in full swing. The Summer Spectacular is a two month long celebration of hot weather, good food and great shopping. And don’t worry we conquered them all.
The festival runs from June to August every year by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. Here are a few of the must see stores and sights during the Summer Festival.
Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival
The Dragon Boat carnival brings together the best of Chinese and Hong Kong culture for the festival season. People from far and near gather together on Victoria Harbour to watch the races in the sun. The athletes come from all over the world to compete so it’s like a mini Olympic Village for Dragon Boat racers. A colleague of mine is actually getting ready to go next year, sp if you make it there in 2014 Pete I said Hi! The drinks flow, the entertainment is lively and the company is in great spirits, what more could you want from summer!
The Visa Go Hong Kong Super Shopper
This is a site to see on social media! The Visa Go Hong Kong Super Shopper is a competition where surrounding countries come together to battle it out in a series of shopping related challenges, this I could do! Participants are given a map and a set of clues to go on a treasure hunt where they shop with their Visa cards along the way. The winner walks away with HK$200,000 in Visa credit! Plan a trip around June-August next year and you could get involved.
Today I’m wearing a Josh Goot tee I wanted to buy for a long time but I didn’t cave though until it was 70% off, I love fashion but I love a bargain even more so you can imagine why the Hong Kong sales appealed to me! Many of the major shopping malls and retail stores have their annual summer sales on at the same time as tourists are visiting Hong Kong for the festival. Make sure to visit Forever 21 in Causeway Bay as they dedicate an entire floor to sales stock during summer. Also Zara had walls of discounted designs up to 70% off, you can find Zara in Harbour City shopping mall.
Tourist Attractions Discounted
To join in the fun most of the major tourist attractions in Hong Kong offer special discounts and deals during the festival. This year Madame Tussauds had HK$20 off admission prices, Ocean Park had 10% off admission prices and the sky100 Observation Deck offered visitors a free gift worth HK$50.
Summer truly is the perfect time to visit Hong Kong, the weather is beautiful, the activities are plenty and the savings are big. The Hong Kong Summer Spectacular runs every year from June 21 – August 31 so plan your trip next year during this period to make the most of your vacation time.
