Things I Love in November

Things I Love in November

What I’m wearing in these kooky ‘photo booth’ shots.
Shopbop – Bop basics Grey tee
Karl Lagerfield Specs (In the last shot!)

New Clothes:
Eeee I love my new Boutique 9 pumps from Shopbop- my girlfriend from Sassybella.com was wearing them at an event and I fell in LOVE with them. Aren’t they so pretty! The heel may be 5 inches and I may not be able to work on any uneven surfaces but it’s ok. It’s a serious love.

New Obsession:
Sprite Zero – please nobody tell me how bad this is for me – because right now I am throughly enjoying putting it into my calorie counter & getting told it has NO CALORIES! I’ll probably get cancer, but for right now when the summer is upon us I am loving keeping my calories down.

New Beauty Products:
Nutrimetics Beach Deep Moisture Body Wash ($25 for 200ml) smells like a dream. I live really close to the city these days and don’t get to the beach as often so anything that makes me feel like Bondi is a stones throw away is a win for me! It’s full of sea kelp to get that super frrresssh feeling.

New Hair Products:
I am the LAST person in the entire world to jump on the Moroccan Oil bandwagon. But I am now in LOVE! if I knew how to do those terrible .gif flashy hearts on here I would. I’ve just used the shampoo & conditioner for the last month and it’s like my hair is on another planet. Finally smooth & tame-able and shiny! Oh and It’s also Sulfate, phosphate and paraben free so you won’t get some nasty illness y’all.

Inside My Handbag

Inside My Handbag

I acquired a new handbag. This beautiful sharp lime green Marc by Marc Jacobs bag from Shopbop. It actually is killing me how excited I am to wear this all summer. I always love those features in magazines when they show the contents of celebs handbags. I’m no celeb (obviously) but I thought it’d be fun to show you what lives inside my handbag. It’s all for preparation of a summer of fun!

1. Wallet – Picked it up at Sportsgirl for about $30

The Tom Ford Cosmetics Collection

The Tom Ford Cosmetics Collection

When a man as fabulous as Tom Ford puts his hand to anything it turns out just the way it should be. The right mix of glamour, edge, sophistication, wearability and complete indulgence. Cue The Tom Ford Cosmetics Collection. A range of colour cosmetics and skin treatments to make any woman feel like their being escorted by Tom himself for a night out on the town. (a gay best friend escort of course). I love the way the collection is described in the press release “Tom Ford Beauty is a paragon of luxury and effectiveness.”

I’ve just started to understand the power in makeup you cannot see but does a whole lot of work. By making your makeup work hard to create a muted elegant look you’ll cause jaws to drop when you walk into a room, the whispers will be along the lines of “how does she do it?”

I was lucky enough to be able to test the Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate palette. Tom believes women should sculpt their bone structure’s appearance by illuminating and shadowing their face. The palette contains a light shading cream to brighten and sculpt the face.

How I use Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate

Lighter shade: I run a thin brush with a decent amount of the almost white illuminator down the centre of my nose. I then use it to fill in just underneath my eyebrows to create a more define arch.

Darker shade: The dark shade a dot on each cheek bone and fan outwards to create a defined high cheek bone. I apply with my fingers as it it really easy to blend.

The collection launches on the 13 November 2011 in David Jones Sydney and David Jones Melbourne. It will sell fast!

Happy 100th Birthday Nivea!

Happy 100th Birthday Nivea!

Happy 100th Birthday Nivea! The iconic skin care brand turns 100 years old in 2011. Nivea is such an important brand to many Australians. It’s the brand we grew up with, from going to the beach with mum and dad and slapping on Nivea 30+ SPF sunscreen to keep the harmful rays at bay, to using the SOS Intensive Balm to protect our hands from the cold on the first trip to the snow. When a mother is buying a skin care routine for a teenage girl conscious about her changing skin Nivea was always there to help out. And when the roles are reversed and that young woman is now buying gifts for her Mum, Nivea has played a part in building family relationships globally.

So I felt I wanted to say Happy 100th Birthday to Nivea. To thank Nivea for being a part of our skin care routines and our lives for an entire century. I baked Nivea cupcakes because every good birthday party needs cake!

I couldn’t help licking the bowl. They were strawberries & cream flavoured- yum!

So I’ve got a cake, but now you need people to celebrate! I didn’t want anyone to miss their chance to thank Nivea for being a part of their life for the last 100 years. We’ve sourced far and wide people telling us how much they love Nivea. I went out to find 100 people who loved Nivea to say Happy 100th Birthday!

Here’s what we found

26 People on the Streets

22 People on Facebook

36 People on Twitter

14 People in the Office

1 very cool puppy

That’s 100 people for Nivea’s 100th Birthday! When there is a century to celebrate everyone gets involved. It’s clear to see why Nivea made it to 100 years!
Comment on this post to send Nivea your best birthday wishes!!!

Pamela Love NYFW – Hair by Sebastian Professional

Pamela Love NYFW – Hair by Sebastian Professional

I know it’s all about the fashion at NYFW but who can go past the hair and beauty. Top hair and make-up artists flock from every corner of the globe to bring their tools and their skills to New York Fashion Week.

Sebastian Professional created the hair look for jewellery designer Pamela Love. Some say she channelled wild west, I Australian outback!

Get the look for yourself!
Lead stylist and Sebastian Professional Global Design Team Artist, Antony Cole, shares how to get the look:
1. Start by applying a pump or two of Potion 9 throughout hair from root to tip.
2. Follow with a heavy spritzing of Volupt Spray, then blow-dry hair straight and smooth with a large round brush.
3. Place turban on head, allowing a few pieces in front to remain free and frame the face. Gather the rest in a low ponytail at the nape of the neck.
4. Run Craft Clay through ponytail for matte texture, grip and hold, and then create a fishtail braid. Secure with a leather tie.
5. Deconstruct the braid by pulling it wider and allowing pieces at the top to become looser.
6. Detail pieces around the face and braid with Shaper Zero Gravity for dry, lightweight hold.

Beauty spot: Chop Chop?

Beauty spot: Chop Chop?

Alexa Chung, Scarlett Johansson, or Abbey Lee Kershaw?

I need a new haircut. New job, new (no) love, new life. It’s time for a change. That’s my terrible heap of a hair in the corner of the collage. You choose do I sport an Alexa Chung haircut? An Abbey Lee Kershaw lob or soft feminine curls like Scarlett Johansson? I’m scared but excited… times are a changing!

Beauty Spot: Neutrogena deep cream cleanser

N.B This is a sponsored post

Finding the right skincare is the bane of my existence. I’m 22 years old and I am still dealing with clogged pores and breakouts. My face is like a test lab for different cleaners, toners and moisturisers. So when I find one that really works I love being able to relax and know that when I wake up the next morning my skin will be smooth and clear. It’s one less thing to worry about in the morning, and I can spend more time deliberating over shoe choices!
I recently had the opportunity to try out Neutrogena’s deep cream cleanser. I’ve typically always bought my skin care from boutique make up stores and paid big bucks for international brands, so at first I was a little unsure about skincare from the supermarket. After trialling the cleanser I was pleasantly surprised with the results. My skin was free from impurities, blackheads and breakouts. My T zone tends to get very oily throughout my day but after using the Deep Cream cleanser my nose and forehead were oil free all day. The Deep Clean cleanser is only $13.99 for a 200g tube, that’s a pretty small price to pay for amazing smooth, oil free, breakout free, clear skin.
I’ve got clear skin, extra cash in my pocket and a serious confidence boost I think this killer combo calls for a night out on the town!

How to: Keep your hydrated in winter Part 2 SKINCARE

How to: Keep your hydrated in winter Part 2 SKINCARE

The easy answer to this question is live like a mermaid underwater. Or keep your skin in pristine condition by bathing in buttermilk. Unfortunately do to the constraints of living an adult life neither of these options are viable. I get really terrible cracked lizard like dry skin in the winter. Ever heard of someone complain about ‘chill bleeds’? If you have it was most likely from me whinging loudly on public transport about how my hands are so dry that they are bleeding. Sexy. And I work in a bar at nights, so that means my dry bleeding hands get stung with yeast from beer and acid from limes every night. Double sexy. In addition to my life moonlighting as a bartender I write about beauty, this helps to balance out the insanity of my life and the disgusting state of my skin. I’ve trialled a few product since Autumn hit for sorting out my skin. Someone worked, a lot didn’t. Here are the products that turned my reptile like coverings into skin that Kate Middleton would borrow when we do sleepovers.

Best face moisturisers: Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream

What is it? A 24-Hour everyday hydrating formula, to keep skin lightly hydrated in harsh weather conditions.
What did it do? I’ve been using moisturisers to help combat acne for ages, and oil, during summertime my skin is so early. But now winter has come around my skin did a complete 180 and now is super dry, but I still get a bit of an oily t-zone. The ultra facial cream somehow softens dry skin but also keeps the oil on my t-zone at bay, amazing.
Why should I buy it? Because everyone needs to own Kiehls. Plus they just dropped all of their prices so it’s really accessible luxury. They have their Australian online store launching on the 15th of June. Plus if you purchase anything online in June and enter the code “lipglossblog” you’ll score a free lipgloss!

Best makeup buy: Innoxa Classic Colour lipstick range

What is it? Innoxa classic colour lipsticks are a range of easy to wear everyday shades. They are the kind of lipsticks colours that you can wear anyday and everyday. You don’t need to wait for a special occasion to pull them out.
What did it do? The lipsticks are packed full Vitamin E which means it nourishes your lips while you wear your makeup.
Why should I buy it? Because when it comes to keeping your lips hydrated its alot more fun to wear a pretty lipstick then plain old lip balm. Plus they are only $14.95 each!

Best skincare product: Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist

What is it? “A hydrating mist rich in the living energy of rose and marshmallow to restore, tone and hydrate.” Basically it’s the yummiest smelling spray on toner which keeps skin hydrated all day.
What did it do? I’ve owned this product for a while but I’ve only just began to see the full benefits as it’s got colder. I love spraying this on before appyling foundation as it creates a soft dewy base to work with, eliminating any chance of cakey makeup.
Why should I buy it? The fact it’s made with natural ingredients, produced in Australia, smells great, last for ages and hydrates your skin, I’m pretty sure it’s a win!

Best hair treatment: Moroccan Oil Restorative Hair Mask

What is it? A hair treatment to penetrate deep into the depths of weak, tired and dry hair. It’s packed full of vegetable proteins (whatever they are?)

What do it do? It is this gloriously thick cream, (thick white cream in winter is heaven!) that made my hair soft and supple and even a serious blowdry. Win

Why should I buy it? Everyone has heard of Moroccan Oil but using it in a treatment is a step beyond the genius original oil. Buy it because you’ll be smarter than your friends.

Best shampoo & conditioner: Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging moisture Shampoo & Conditioner

(mouthful!)

What is it? Really amazing Shampoo & Conditioner, ok that’s not the most technical answer to the question but this stuff is amazing. It’s a sulfate free cleanser (sulfate is nasty stuff) infused with Seasilk that helps prevent hair from ageing. Most importantly it’s a thick cream with a satin like texture that helps restore hydration, colour, moisture and basically is just amazing.

What do it do? I recently coloured my hair for the first time in 3 years and my hair hated me for it. My hair bought me flowers to apologize for being such a bitch after I treated it to Alterna.

What should I buy it? I always wonder if the price difference is going to match the ‘hair difference’ when supermarket shampoo is about $2 a bottle it’s a serious question. This is one of the few times I truly believe in paying that bit extra for good quality shampoo and conditioner.

Adorable, beautiful, charming, dainty, delightful, pleasant, pretty, it’s all a bit CUTE! M.A.C has a introduced seriously girly and fun take on all things a little bit cute, quite cute to be precise. The collection is all about keeping your make-up sweet. Think cupcake icing coloured lipgloss and fairy floss shades of blush. Ooh how much I love feeling this girly.

We loved the mineralize blush in Giggly, my skin already looks less congested and is a sweet shade of pink, the colour my cheeks would go if Zac Efron walked by, oh la la! Retails for $50.00AUD in stores now.

Beauty spot: 5 facts about acne

Beauty spot: 5 facts about acne

5 facts about acne

Acne starts with congestion, whiteheads, blackheads
When little bumps under your skin form, that’s congestion – the first sign it’s about to turn ugly. When you see blackheads or whiteheads appear – you know the heat is being turned up, the pressure is on because those suckers about to get big, red and swollen. Nip pimples in the butt before they have a chance to attack by fighting back at the earliest stage possible. Do this by switching to a mineral makeup for a few days or using a clearing gel overnight like the Intraceuticals clarity treat gel, pictured.

Your cosmetics plays a big role in the state of your skin
So many girls are under the impression that your moisturizer works as a barrier against your foundation, powder and blush. This is simply not true, anything you put onto your skin is going to seep into your pores and have a positive or a negative effect. By checking out the ingredients of cosmetics before you buy will save you heartache and frustration when you’ve still got spots even with a killer skin care regime. Talk to beauty counter managers about your skin and ask for recommendations for acne friendly foundation and powder.

You can eat chocolate
It’s such a horrible myth that chocolate cause acne. I don’t know who started it but it’s completely false. Indulge in a Dairy Milk bar tonight.

You don’t necessarily need to see a dermatologist if you have pimples
If you are thinking of visiting a dermatologist for a few spots here and there, think carefully about the money your about to blow or see a GP first. Dermatologists are A. expensive and B. offer medical treatment you might not need. Try a few different recommended cleansers first. Try Origins Zero Oil Pore purifying toner and moisturizer with Saw Palmetto and Mint from Kit Cosmetics

Spot treatment works
Spot treatments are so great for drying out spots. I became discouraged after using many different supermarket brand spot clearing treatments and not seeing any results. I’ve now come to realize that paying that little bit extra for a dermatologist tested treatment will make a world of different to the redness and swelling of your spots. Try Mario Badescu Drying Lotion $48.95 or Dermalogica MediBac Overnight Clearing Gel $64.00 from Kit Cosmetics or (pictured)

How to: Get rid of adult acne Part 1

How to: Get rid of adult acne Part 1

There is nothing worse than being the last of your friends covering up zits. Whether you’re just coming out of your teenage years or well into your 20′s, having acne past the age of 16 is a social nightmare. I know this as I am now 22 and still battling blemishes. When I’ve searched around on the internet for information on “what to do to get rid of blemishes” the information has been uninformative, irrelevant  and hardly ever from a source I actually trust! SO in an attempt to combat acne and misleading information I am going to be using myself (and possibly a few ring in friends) to become skin care guinea pigs over the next few weeks.

This first blog looks at Jurlique’s purifying mask range of products designed to rebalance the oils in your skin. .

Price: $55AUD 40ml

Stockists: Jurlique stores and David Jones.

Key Ingredients: Green Tea for rebalancing,

We love the: thick texture and great smell

Verdict: It’s a great product with some serious skin smoothing benefits. The thick texture draws out imperfections and leaves skin soft. It doesn’t actually clear spots but works as a mechanism to prevent spots appearing anytime soon!
