Levi’s Leveraging Social Media

I’m not sure if I’ve ever made my readers aware but I work in social media for my day job. So when fashion campaigns land on my desk that are social I can get pretty excited. Levi’s have always been pioneers in the social media movement. They are taking leaps and bounds with this new film designed for the web “Go Forth” which encourages users to share the film, get inspired and integrate Levi’s into their every changing and evolving lives.

Watch the film. Be inspired.

“Now, more than ever, the world needs inspiration. The world needs people with a pioneering spirit who still believe that anything is possible.  Our 60-second ‘Go Forth’ film and digital engagement program recognize people around the globe who are stepping forward to transform the world,” said Becca Van Dyck, global chief marketing officer of the Levi’s® brand. “Through Facebook, we hope to inspire people to join us in supporting the important work of today’s pioneers.”

In addition to the inspiring and emotive film, Levi’s has launched an online social initiative which is focused on supporting water.org’s safe drinking water projects. Levi’s is encouraging its millions of Facebook fans to help provide clean drinking water for up to 8,000 people in developing countries.

Fashionable holidays: Gold Coast, Queensland

Fashionable holidays: Gold Coast, Queensland

I’ve recently started a new job (hello new colleagues sussing me out via the blog) but before I dove into a new position I decided a little R&R was in order. My holiday budget was limited (Sorry Rihanna I can’t do Bahamas this year). But did you know how many seriously fashionable holiday destination there are in our backyard? A serious short flight from most Metropolitan cities is the beautiful Gold Coast. This city of sun, surf and sand hasn’t been on anyones holiday radar of late for three reasons which need to be forgotten. 1. Katy Perry didn’t honey moon there. 2. The Queensland floods 3. The “backpacker” stereotype image the Gold Coast had. Forget what you heard, this strip of cafes, bars, beaches and seriously good looking people has emerged of late into a fashionable holiday destination.

Where to eat on the Gold Coast: 1two3 Broadbeach, Sage Restaurant Broadbeach

There are two super cute restaurants situation on the sunny side of the highway in Broadbeach. The two restaurants have the same owner but a very different cuisine, but they same quality. Functions manager Justine Clarke tells us you have to try the Passionate Getaway cocktail at 1two3 “Malibu, vanilla vodka & passionfruit…full of yummy, fruity goodness.” Justine tells us that Sage is the place to catch up with friends in the sun.
“Sage specializes in steaks with a Modern Australian menu that has a great mix of lots of different dishes. The restaurant is light and open and enjoys full sun all day .”
The two venues have great food, a great atmosphere and the mixologists know how to make an amazing afternoon cocktail (most importantly!)

Where to relax on the Gold Coast: The Golden Door Spa, Kingscliff

Queensland is so relaxed as is, but if you need to wind down even more or perhaps a good way to start a holiday! The Golden Door have locations at Marina Mirage in Main Beach, Salt Village in Kingscliff which is northern NSW, about 30 minutes south of the border (super close to the Gold Coast!).
The spa brings a touch of decadence to any holiday, whether it’s a massage to relax, a facial to revive or a manicure to beautify Golden Door will take the time to make you experience a true luxury.
The Golden Door Spa at Salt Village is one of the largest day spas in Australia. Boasting 21 treatment areas including double treatment suites, Vichy showers, manicure and pedicure beds and Golden Door Boutique; The Golden Door Spa is the perfect place to rebalance, refocus and refresh. http://www.goldendoor.com.au/

Fashion News: Witchery white shirt campaign

The overwhelming amount of good causes to donate can be daunting. Where to place value and where to contribute and play your part is a big decision. You want be able to support those around, those who will be affected in the future or those around you affected today by hardships.

The Witchery white shirt campaign helps to make a decision for you by informing women of the effects of ovarian cancer and partnering with fashion and medical research for a solution. Celebs like supermodel Pania Rose, celebrity chef Justin North and Olympic swimming legend Michael Klim have all got behind Witchery to support the cause.

The campaign involves a capsule collection launched in Witchery store nationwide comprising of three shirts for men and seven shirts and a tote bag for women, 100 per cent of the gross proceeds going directly to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

By helping to advance ovarian cancer research hard working medical professionals will be able to investigate test development, treatment measure and increase the chance of saving the life of someone you love.

The collection was launched into stores last week, and on the 19th May Australians are encouraged to wear their white shirt to show support for this worthy cause.

Ladies get behind a cause close to home & add a gorgeous white shirt to your wardrobe in the process.

RAFW: Alex Perry

Alex Perry was the talk point of LMFF earlier this year by presenting his Spring/Summer 2012 collection to a consumer-based audience. Cuban Princess (part 1) was unveiled in March to a consumer audience, months before it hits the stores. The second part of the collection, Cuban Princess was unveiled in the traditional sense to media and buyers first today, so Alex was somewhat quiet savvy by creating collection hype from the best of both worlds.

The first half of the collection was full of colour and the second part was pretty similar. The heavy satins were a featured amongst what usually is a silk/chiffon fueled collection. Wrapped halter necks and hoop earrings gave the pieces a Ziggy feel. The collection also featured embellished Japanese silk print, mermaid-esque mint sequins, brilliant crimson and some seriously think stilettos. Alex Perry choose colour over animal print this season for the win.

Above is the video of the final walk.

RAFW: Arnsdorf

RAFW: Arnsdorf

New York based Australian designer Jade Sarita Arnott has graced us with her presence at RAFW 2011/2012 to present the Spring/Summer collection for her cult followed label, Arnsdorf.
Founded in 2007 the labels associates with phrases like modern esthetic, subtle tailoring and artistic design. Known for using a subtle colour palette and mixing in key print pieces this year was no different.

The highlight of the collection was the mint trim featured on structured nude beige dresses. The print knot shoulder dress is very commercially viable, can see it landing in boutiques. The fabrics were heavy (which seems to be a popular trend for summer), the colours mixed basic nudes with mint and brilliant pink and digital prints were a favourite.

Minimalistic but with a touch of character.

Did we mention we are covering RAFW?

Did we mention we are covering RAFW?

I’ve just arrived home from my first show for the season of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, and have realized how excited I am to be covering the event once again.

This year’s Spring/Summer 2011/2012 showcase will be entering into a new era with more off site shows, new designers showing, old designers returning and a whole cattle call of interesting people to immerse myself in for a week.

Thurley kicked off the proceedings tonight with a beautifully crafted affair featuring pieces so delectable they looked as if they’d melt in your mouth. Scarlett red, heavy detailing and feathers dominated the runway. Designer Helen O’Connor has stepped up to the plate to create a runway ready collection that is sure to fill the gaping hole in the high fashion red carpet market.

Although I was unable to secure images for Thurley, during RAFW we have contracted amazing photographer Elaine Kwok from upcoming social blog whataboutharold.com to capture the week in photo’s that will tell more than 1000 words.

The general consumer outside of fashion land is usually more interested in what celebrities will be sitting front row. Confirmed celebrities include Susanna Lau from Style Bubble who will be blogging for Sportsgirl and Jessica Gomes model turned P.Diddy muse who is the official face for RAFW. Katy Perry is rumored to pop her head in at RAFW but we’re not going to get our hopes up, even though she does land a day early in Sydney for her concert, time to kill with fashion perhaps?

The shows we mostly are anticipating include Shakuhachi, Josh Goot, Gail Sorronda & Friend of Mine. Also the newbies to fashion week from Raffles design college will be bringing in some fresh talent from their Sydney, Singapore & Shanghai campuses to rule the runway. The prestigious design school has produced talent such as Dan Single (Ksubi) and Nicola Finetti.

Basically there is a hell of a lot happening and you need to stay tuned!

Fashion News: Myer AW11 launch

Who doesn’t love this time of year, it’s still sunny enough to be enjoying the beach, but the shops are filling up with winter fashions. It’s really the best of both worlds. As I said earlier in the week I attended the David Jones collection launch, well it’s only fair to show you what their direct competitor Myer are doing this season so you’ve got a bit of choice! They’ve got three key trends this winter, Ladylike Chic, Urban Army and Country Club. The campaign feature two of my favorite IT girls, Jennifer Hawkins and Jess Hart, so so gorgeous.

Check out the campaign video for a behind the scenes look at the fashion for this winter!
