Colour Conference 2011

This is a post completely un-fashion related by it’s something on my heart I want to share. As women in the world today we are encouraged to be independant and strong women, yes this is great, but sometimes it has a very lonely outlook if your doing it alone. As a single woman I know that having a career, living in the city and trying to have it all is impossible if I’m doing it alone. I need Jesus and I need other women in my life. Together we band together as a group of women who with Jesus and each other anything is possible! Who doesn’t want that.
In March every woman has the chance to come together for a conferencde known as Colour Conference hosted by Bobbie Housten and the Hillsong church team. Here is a snippet of an interview with Bobbie Housten about the Sisterhood movement and Colour Conference from the website www.colourconference.com/
TELL US HOW COLOUR STARTED?
Colour started 14 or so years ago, when I felt a directive in my heart to start a conference or a gathering that would gather women of all ages. A gathering that would bring women into an environment that actually believes in them. It is about believing in the potential of women. I think when you capture and mobilise the feminine heart – there is no end of amazing endeavor that women can accomplish and be involved in.
TELL US WHAT YOU REMEMBER ABOUT YOUR FIRST EVER COLOUR?
The first year of Colour was so awesome. We were just starting and we really didn’t know what it would look like! I was just following a prompting to do this. We hired a building down the road because we didn’t have our own venue then – and I invited my friend Holly Wagner to be our speaker. I had actually never heard Holly speak, I just liked her spirit… and we had 602 women turn up and become the foundation block of this conference that in so many ways represents a Movement of women around the earth.
If your thinking that this might be something you were interested in, email me at megan@anaustralianwintour.com and I can give you more details. Visit www.colourconference.com/
Hot Picks: White Watches
Ohh la la new fashion trends are everywhere at the moment. This white watch trend is defiantly an accessory to take on board. The white watch has not been done well in a very long time, but luckily this time round friends like Marc by Marc Jacobs and Armani Exchange have stepped in to make this trend runway worthy. Love the watches below!!!
Hot Picks: Easy Christmas Gift Ideas
This year I feel as if I’m getting old as I start to request gifts from my family like ‘a good set of knives’ or a gift card for Bed, Bath and Table. As Carrie said in SATC2 I’ve been cheating on fashion with furniture of late due to the big move.
To get back into the spirit of fun girly Christmas presents I thought I’d showcase of few gifts given to me and gifts I’ve bought for myself that would be perfect to pick up for your girlfriends this year or the office Kris Kringle rounds.
For your party friend: We’ve all seen those ballet flats that fold up into a ball to chuck into your handbag for nights out; well flipsters are like the summer equivalent of those ballet flats. Stored in a tiny bag the flipsters fold out to a pair of thongs to slip on for the horrid walk home from the bus stop.
For your girlfriend: I more just chucked this in for decoration but I am in love with this necklace I picked up at Sportsgirl about 3 months ago. I doubt it’s still in store, but Sportsgirl jewelry is a great stocking filler! Another idea would be to make up a pamper pack for the girls with choccies, candles and bath salts, as well as the new Venus Spa Breeze with White Tea, I got the chance to test it out and it’s pretty spesh!
For your boss: I treated myself to this book when I first moved down here I treated myself to this book. I’ve found myself now everytime I want to head out for a meal checking the Good Food Guide for a new recommendation. I’m slowly highlighting all the places I’ve visited. It’s a great present for the boss who is a bit difficult to buy for, because who doesn’t love a good meal!
For the Best Friend: I’m still ranting on about how great Cloud Nine irons are, because they really are ‘all that’. Cloud Nine is also doing great gift packs for Christmas too. Your bestie will be blown away! Another idea for that signature friend who is always complaining about her health, order her an Urban Remedy three day detox. The three day juice cleanse works to eliminate nasty toxins from your body leaving you feeling healthier and lighter. Plus the juices taste delicious! Order online at www.urbanremedy.com.au
What are you thinking about buying the special people in your world? Would love to hear!!
NB: Flipsters, Venus White Tea Razor, Cloud Nine and Urban Remedy detox were provided to An Australian Wintour for editorial consideration.
Hot Picks: Rachel Gilbert AW11′
It’s almost summertime, the shops are filled with breezy easy dresses, luxe swimwear and strappy sandals. This cues a thought for winter 2011, it’s probably the last thing on your mind but it’s the first thought for all the designers and magazines in Australia. It’s time to unveil what’s going to be happening for next winter. So while your lying on the beach soaking up the sun turn your attention to fur coats and leather jackets, it sounds impossible but no so when you’ve got Rachel Gilbert’s RTW collection for AW11 to lust over.
Rachel Gilbert, is an Australian designer with a reputation for constructing the perfect runway frock. Details, beading, quality fabrics and luxury do not go astray in any of Rachel’s gowns. Now there is a new way to think of Rachel and one that we are busting to tell you about. For AW11 Rachel has brought out a ready to wear line to sequin up your everyday in the fall. The AW11 ready to wear collection is full of Rachel’s signiture sequins and beadings but is played down for a daytime feel. Also in the collection expect to see terra-cotta leather, luxe furs, oversized tees and some seriously hot leggings.
Girls looking for 2011 high school formal dresses the AW11 is purrrfect for you too! Beautiful formal dresses to wow your formal date and all of your girlfriends (who doesn’t love that). I’m especially hot for the apricot detailed gown pictured below.
The lookbook for AW11 is yet to be released but I will be sure to let all the 2011 year 12 girls know when it is!
I wish I could sit around and lust over fashion all day but unfortunately I’m off to try and find a new apartment. Not fun! Talk soon lovely friends
I AM BACK!
Hi favourite An Australian Wintour readers!
You may have noticed we went on a hitaus for the last 10 days. I’m sorry about that, I’m not tech/web savvy at all so the site was down due to my incomtempency. The good news is though we are back with a whole new layout and a new homebase (almost!). I will be based in Sydney from this Wednesday! Be my friend?
Hope you enjoy the new web layout I couldn’t have done it without the help of Bree from The Blog Stylist she is a guru!
New things to expect from the new site!
* I finally invested in a decent camera so style pictures are going to be more frequent
* More fashion galleries
* More insider fashion industry knowledge
* Alot more event coverage as being in Sydney I’ll actually be able to cover the events!
Also going to be chucking more interviews and share a bit more on Jesus (my best friend and saviour!) when I can!
Cannot wait to do this exciting journey with you friend!
Love always Megan.

Hot Picks: Pretty Things That Landed on my Desk This Week
H&M AW Lookbook, Lusting for a White Christmas!
Where to: Shop on the Gold Coast

Living on the Gold Coast for the last 8 years and being a fashion loving female has been a bit of strain. We don’t have the luxury of thousands of boutiques like Melbourne, or Myer stores that have a whole floor dedicated to women’s shoes like Sydney. No, no on the Gold Coast with our tiny residential population we make do we’ve what we’re given; chain stores and Kmart. Luckily though for the whingers like myself a few Gold Coast fashionista’s stepped out and built boutiques to rival Paris to compete with Milan and triumph Sydney and Melbourne. Over the next two post’s I’m going to take you through a few women’s stores you have to visit when holidaying on the Gold Coast.
I Hate My Skirt: With such a quaint cutesy name it’s hard to resist walking in to this little Nobby’s Beach boutique, and trust me, you’ll be glad you did. The busy racks, the vintage décor and the hand picked garments on display in this beach side boutique will have you drooling. Taking a look around the store you’ll see your favourite labels such as Gold Coast label Away, national favourites like Bec & Bridge or Nookie and a whole lot of other great brands to sink your teeth into.
Le Deux: A new-ish store to the Gold Coast and we’re glad they decided to debut in our little beach town. Le Deux cuts through any pre conceptions of what you thought retail shopping on the Gold Coast looked like. Situated in James Street Burleigh, one of the oldest beach side streets, Le Deux brings a new calibre of fiends to the beach town. It stocks a few beachside staples like One Teaspoon and Kini Bikini and also branches out and stocks a lot of up and coming labels for men and women such as MaryMary, Ash, ManiQuin, Lost Pigeon and Modern Collective. Go for a swim, grab some fish and chips then shop the high street boutique all in one day.

Joy Hysteric: This store is somewhat a veteran in Gold Coast fashion, surviving the recession when most upmarket Gold Coast retailers did not, it tells you Joy must understand the business she is in. One of the GC’s most upmarket boutiques Joy Electric stocks labels such as Gail Sorronda, Romance was Born, Kirrily Johnston and many other iconic Australian labels. Joy Electric has earned a reputation not only on the Gold Coast but nationwide after featuring in many women’s magazines as a ‘place to shop’.
Pop over later this week to check out the last of the six best places to shop on the Gold Coast!
Hot Picks: Marie Claire Turns 15!

When I was 15 years old I was having so much fun. I was running amock with my girlfriend, trying out the latest beauty products, shopping in my favorite stores and just enjoying being a girl. Marie Claire is celebrating their fifteenth birthday the same way I spent my year as a fifteen year old but one a bigger scale. The september issue will be one of their biggest issues to date to celebrate their fifteenth birthday. It will be on sale as of 4th August, so you can celebrate along with the team. The issue will feature a look into the mechanics of the magazine, a look at the staff, the editor and the production of the much loved Australian glossy. Here is a peak at a few of the great images from the magazine on sale on 4th August! Enjoy!
